
The need for urgent response and action
Sir David King, former Chief Scientific Adviser to HM Government has said that “Climate change is the most severe problem that we are facing today, more serious even than the threat of terrorism.” We are much too late to ‘undo’ climate change – we can only mitigate the damage. Most scientists advise that once global temperature increases reach 2°C a number of ‘tipping points’ are likely to kick in with the effect of speeding up global warming. Assuming current patterns in greenhouse gas emissions and global temperatures continue, the world will reach this temperature by 2020, probably before. That does not allow much time for action…
